From Overwhelmed to In Control: A Good First Step

When something shifts in your life, or needs to shift in your life, you should re-assess your calendar and routines. I did that last week, and a welcome and familiar sense of control and purposefulness began to set in as I looked over the end product.

The process helped uncover an activity that I need to start phasing out in order to create room for something I’ve been wanting to do but haven’t been able to fit. It will take some time to phase out the one and add the other, but knowing I have a plan in place – one with a defined timeline – allows me to feel excitement and anticipation for the project on the horizon.

It also gave me a sense of certainty about letting go of the old thing. As you may know from my book, Love and the Art of Saying No, I find letting go when the time is right to be a critical element to a healthy, happy life. Calendaring provided an opportunity and also encouraged me to acknowledge that the one has long since run its course and has been limping along for a while now because I wasn’t ready to let go.

But you know, it’s really hard to pick something up when your hands are full.

The best incentive to let go of something lovely is to need space for something lovelier.

Calendaring can be a frustrating process – it’s when we come face to face with the reality that the hours in our day are finite, and no degree of denial or wishing will increase them. But when we can push past the discouragement of not being able to do it all, we can come to make peace with the fact that we’re not supposed to!

There’s a lot of forgiveness of self and freedom to be found in this discovery. And with that discovery comes the opportunity – if you know how – to make plans, cull the excess, and find sweet hope for the future!

When is the last time you intentionally put your routine on paper and reconciled it with the changes you want to make, the things you’d like to add, the things you need to let go of, and made a plan?

If anything has changed, or if anything feels like it needs to change, it’s time to give it a go.

If you would like a taste of this peace, this hope for the future, but you don’t know where to start or how to get there, contact us! We are excited to coach you through it.
